For the final project I will create simple tutorials for people who do not know anything about digital manufacturing. Try with them so that they can finish a project and encourage them to discover digital manufacturing and its possibilities.
Inkscape is a free and easy-to-use free-graphics vector editor that allows you to save in different formats.
It has also free extensions on this page To install a new extension, download and unzip the file. Copy the files to the directory listed in Edit> Preferences> System: User Extensions. After restarting Inkscape, the new extension will be available.
Vectorizing images is very easy.
1: Search your image in google and download it.
2: By default Inkscape opens with a sheet of A4 size, this can be changed in File–>Properties of the document.
3: Import with Inkscape. We open the program with double click and File–>Import.
4: In the upper toolbar we will see a padlock to ensure that it is always closed so that we can scale the image without risk of distorting it or pressing “ctrl” while manipulating the image.
5: To change the size of the image we have to put the mouse cursor over the arrows that appear in the image and drag.
6: In the upper toolbar press “Path—>vectorize bitmap”. (The image has to be selected).
7: You will get a picture in the upper right, as you can create several paths, the image is much better vectorized if it is black and white, the more contrast the image has, the better.
8: With the selected image press “Update–>OK”. The image is of good quality with which we have not had to touch it a lot.
9: We have the vectorized image, we delete the original and we keep the vector. To not confuse you just have to click on the tool to edit nodes and move the cursor over, the edges of the image will turn red.
10: We can save it in PDF or DXF. File–> Save as … –>We choose PDF or DXF.
