OBJECTIVE: The objective of my final project is to develop a pedagogical resource about making and e-textile addressed to secondary school students (14-18 yo). In this interdisciplinary activity, students will build a smart crystal lamp by sewing the components together. The students will learn:

PROCESS

I prepared a simple circuit by sewing with conductive thread 4 blue LEDs on a small square of felt. I painted them carefully with transparent polish nail to protect them from corrosion due to the cristal bath. I then checked that the circuit was still working by connecting a coin battery.

STRUCTURE

We decided to build a mini loom to weave a conductive tissue. The files were downloaded, modified and cut with the Fab Lab laser cutter.

ISSUESI modified the files for the 4mm plywood that we had in stock but I left too much margin and I needed to glue the pieces to make a solid structure.

Not being a designer, my Fabricademy final project will be a toolguide, a series of educational resources for teachers and students of primary and secondary schools to combine national curricula with maker and textile activities. I therefore tried to adapt the guidelines about creating a Ultra-Personalized Product Service System (UPPSS) to explore how personalization can happen for this kind of project.
