State of the Art, Project Management and Documentation

Assignment

  • (Done) Build a personal site describing you, your final project and how you designed your website
  • (Done) Plan and sketch a potential semester project and add it to your website.
  • (Done) Upload it to the class archive

Evaluation

Has the student built his documentation website, is everything is clear and visible? Has the student drafted an outline/ideas for the final project?

Building my personal website was a little bit hard for me, since when I took the FabAcademy course I was costumed to edit my personal website in html instead of using a wiki interface.

So the first thing I did was to create the main page, for this, I logged in the wiki, clicked on edit and started to write on the text box.

Basically, my main page consists on an introduction about myself and the list of assignments of the course.

For each assignment I created a new link using the tool add a link at the top bar indicating on the URL field the same url I had on the main page followed by an slash bar an the name of the week ( For example: “…./week1” ).

Once I finished the main page, I entered to the link of week1 and started to edit it.

I am not really sure about what can I do for my final project. However, I have been thinking on two possible final projetcs, at least by now: A Wireless Controlled Blimp or a Sky Lattern.

Why?

The reason I want to make one of this projects is because I have not ever worked, until now, in projects which imply the use of gasses or the capacity to move through air. And I think this is a great opportunity to work in one.

Option 1: A Wireless Controlled Blimp

The first idea I have is to develope a small blimp which could be controlled wirelesly. This will imply some issues to deal with:

  • 1. To find a way to achive airtight unions.
  • 2. To find a way of filling the blimp with helium.
  • 3. To find a way to move the blimp in specific directions.
  • 4. To design and construct a lightweight structure for adjusting electronics to the blimp.
  • 5. To design the electronics for a remote controller.
  • 6. To develope a program for controlling the blimp movements.
  • 7. To develope a program for comunicating the blimp and the controller.

My inspiration for this project comes from the Festo's Air Penguins.

Option 2: A Hot Air Balloon or An Sky Lattern

The second idea I have is to develope a small version of a hot air balloon, this version are called Sky Latterns. And as the option 1, it will imply som issues to deal with:

  • 1. To work with fire.
  • 2. To work with fuel.
  • 3. To find a way to move the sky lattern on air.
  • 4. To find a way in which the fabrics don't get burned easily.
  • 5. To design and construct a lightweight structure for adjusting electronics.
  • 6. To protect the hardware from fire.

My inspiration for this project comes from the Taunggyi Fire Balloon Festival.

I have identified at least the following steps:

  1. Find an STL form.
  2. Get the cutting patterns for the STL file.
  3. Modify the patterns so that it tabs permits an airtight sealing.
  4. Cut the patterns and join them
  5. Add a nozzle to the inflatable structure (only for the blimp).
  6. Design an structure that joins the electronics and the inflatable.
  7. Manufacture the joining structure.
  8. Design the electronics attached to the inflatable structure.
  9. Manufacture the electronics attached to the inflatable structure.
  10. Create a program that controls the inflatable on the electronics attached to it.
  11. Create a program that sends commands to the inflatable.
  12. Join all toguether and test.
  13. Optionally add a logo to it.
